PURITY LIFE ACQUIRES THE HERBON^® BRAND

Toronto, Ontario, January 2, 2007 – Purity Life Health Products, a SunOpta Company (NASDAQ – STKL) (TSX – SOY) part of the SunOpta Canadian Food Distribution Group today announced that it has completed the acquisition of the Herbon^® brand of cough drops and lollipops including the business and inventory.

Herbon^® is a premium quality line of cough drops and lollipops designed to relieve symptoms of the common cold and provide a healthy dosage of Echinacea to supplement the immune system. Herbon^® has a 10 year history of providing Canadian families with quality medicinal cough drops and lollipops. The acquisition will be integrated within the Purity Life distribution network, resulting in immediate synergies arising from Purity’s large sales, marketing and distribution departments. David Chapman, President of Purity Life, a division of the SunOpta Canadian Food Distribution Group, described the Herbon^® acquisition as “an excellent addition to our portfolio of brands” and confirmed his intention to continue to grow the Herbon^® brand across all channels through innovative marketing initiatives, retailer programs and new product development.
